What You Need to Know – FMCSA $396.17
Every commercial motor vehicle, including each part of a combination vehicle, must undergo a full inspection at least once every 12 months.
Inspections must follow the Minimum Periodic Inspection Standards listed in Appendix G to Subchapter B of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Motor carriers are allowed to perform their own inspections, but they must meet all regulatory requirements.
Inspection reports must be kept on file for 14 months from the date of the inspection.
